Looking for a quite cool place to go away for this weekend ? Then head to Big Banyan Tree which is just 25km far from Bangalore. This Banyan tree is 400-year-old, which spreads over an area of 4 acres! It is called ‘Dodda Alada Mara’ in Kannada meaning Big Banyan Tree. The tree with its vertical root system is said to be the biggest tree in Karnataka and the fourth largest Banyan tree in India.
Many birds like Hoopoe, Bush chat, Pirnia, Dove, Drongo can be spotted on the way to the banyan tree. Many nurseries selling varieties of plants can be observed on the road leading to the Banyan tree. No charge for entry and Photography at Banyan tree.
How to reach Big Banyan Tree:
This Big Banyan tree is situated in Kethohalli village which is just 25km far bangalore and it is well connected by road. There is a bus stop in front of the Big Banyan tree.
By road: Drive towards Mysore and take a right turn near Raja Rajeshwari Dental College which is not so far from the city. And that is a straight road. Continue to drive until you reach the Big Banyan Tree. Country club is also situated on this road. You can visit the Banyan Tree and Manchibale (backwaters of Arkavathy River) on the same day.
