Pondicherry, also known as Puducherry has some of the most beautiful beaches. Of all of them, Paradise beach and Auroville beach are the most popular in Pondicherry and you don’t want to miss them at any cost.

Auroville Beach:
The Auroville Beach lies in the region of Auroville in Pondicherry along the shoreline that borders the Bay of Bengal.
It lies at a distance of twelve kilometers from the center of the main town of Pondicherry lying opposite the road that winds to Auroville. The beach lies by the ECR. The shore of the Auroville Beach in Pondicherry is washed by small waves. The waters of the Bay of Bengal along the Auroville Beach is shallow and offers a great opportunity of swimming to the tourists. The slope of the beach is gentle that facilitates the swimmers. The novice who are not able to swim may also enjoy a bath in the Bay of Bengal in the Auroville Beach as the beach does not have any sudden breaks that may be harmful for swimmers. The beauty of the beach is enhanced by the shell fragments and the shingles that are deposited by the waves along the beach. The children often collect the shells that vary in the shapes and colors.
Repos Beach huts:
Repo beach, sometimes also referred as Auroville beach is very near to Auroville. It is a very nice to relax and less crowded than Auroville beach. Many Foreigners prefer this beach and it is also said that there is a boundary between the regions accessed by Foreigners and locals. Repos beach is also featured in the Hindi film ‘Jism’ which was shot in Pondicherry. I found the below image on one blog which explains more about the Repos community
Serenity Beach

This beach is a ten minutes drive to the north of the town. This virgin beach, with its serene surroundings is an ideal place to laze away your day. Serenity Beach in Pondicherry gives its visitors huge scope to indulge in various adventure spots like boating, canoeing, kayaking etc. You can try something new and play a round of beach volleyball with your friends and relatives. It is a perfect destination for sunbathing, swimming or enjoying the sight of arrival and retreating of waves against the sandy shore. The beach is bordered by the wooded line of palm trees.
Promanade Beach
Promenade is around 1.5 km long, which run along the Pondicherry beach in the town. This long stretch has statues of Jeanne d’Arc Dupleix and Mahatma Gandhi, the heritage building ‘Mairie’ and War Memorial built by French. It also has 27 metres tall Old Lighthouse, Gandhi Thidal and a circular shaped customs house at this site.

Promenade his beach is sometimes also referred as Rocky Beach or Gandhi beach. This beach is just 15mins away from city bus stand.
Gandhi statue at the beach is very famous landmark. Le Cafe is one coffee shop near to the Gandhi statue beach which is open 24 hours and provide some awesome variety of coffees. Do try this place when you are there.
Veerampattinam Beach
Veerampattinam is the biggest coastal village in the union territory of Puducherry situated between Pondicherry and Cuddalore. The village is 7 km away from the Pondicherry city centre and frequent bus services are available from Pondicherry for almost once in every 10–15 minutes.

Paradise Beach (Plage Paradiso Beach)
Plage Paradiso is a lovely beach, spread at a stretch of 1.5 kilometers with golden sands and palm trees. Located 8 km from Pondicherry, you can reach here through a house boat or a river cruise from Chunnambar resort which is just by the side of NH45A south of Pondicherry, just before the road crosses a bridge over a backwater. You can take a normal boat or a speed boat to Paradise beach.
