After a daycation in Yelgiri hills last week, i thought of taking rest for the weekend. But two days rest is too much isn’t it ? Yeah i thought the same. So where to go ? As per my thokkalo theory after hills, there should be falls. So when we are looking for the nearest and little rarest place to Bangalore, Google suggested us this beautiful waterfalls called – Hogenakkal falls. It is located in the Dharmapuri district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, about 180 km from Bangalore and 46 km from Dharmapuri town. It is sometimes referred to as the “Niagara of India”. Yes this was our destination for the last weekend. It was an AWESOME tour.
When the water falls on the rocks it appears as if hoge (smoke in Kannada) is emanating from the top of the kal ( means rock )because of the force of the water, hence Hogenakkal (smoking rocks). It is also called as Marikottayam by the people of Tamil Nadu. [ From WIkI]
So how to reach ?
Route : Bangalore – Hosur – Rayakottai – Palakodu – Penagaram – Hoggenakkal = 170Kms
By bus : You can catch a direct bus to Dharmapuri from bangalore and from their its just 46 km and bus frequency is also
too good.
Train route: Nearest train station is Dharmapuri. There is one train running from Bangalore to Salem early in the morning at 7.15. Catch that train and reach till Dharmapuri and you can have n number of buses towards Hogenakkal.
